I think that you can't ignore the invisible wall. If you ignore it and proceed right through it, then you may be effectively "splitting" your decor in half as well. The wall will appear unbalanced and unjustly divided.

You are absolutely correct. You might not know what's wrong, but you will feel it. And good design, in the end, is all about "feeling" good.
